20 STEPS TO USING MS OUTLOOK

MS OUTLOOK RESOURCE CENTER

1) From your Start menu, please find Microsoft Outlook Or Outlook Express and open it.

2) A window will open that says "Outlook or Outlook Express is currently not your default mail client. Would you like to make it your default?" Answer "yes"

3) At the top of the page you will see a button that says "tools"; click on this button and you will get a drop-down menu. Click on the button that says "Accounts"

4) An "Internet Account" window will appear. Click the little tab that says "All" and remove any directories or newsgroups by highlighting each one and clicking "Remove"

5) Once all the directories are removed, click "add" then click "mail" in the little pop-out window

6) Type in your name - "Your Name" - and click "next"

7) Type in your email address - you@yourdomainname.com - and click "next"

8) Type in your incoming mail server: mail.yourdomainname.com
note: (keep incoming mail port at 110)

9) Type in your outgoing mail server: mail.yourdomainname.com
note: (set the outgoing mail port to 587) This needs to be changed from 25.


10) Type in your account name:

11) Type in your password.

12) Put a check mark in the box that says "remember password". NOTE: Make sure NONE of the other boxes on this page are checked.

13) Click "finish"

14) The Internet Account window will now be in your center screen again. Click on your account name and then click "properties" to the right

15) A "properties" window will open in your center screen. Fill in the appropriate information for "Organization" and "Reply Address"

16) At the top of the "Properties" window, click the tab that says "Connection"

17) When your connection window opens, put a check mark in the box that says "Always connect to this account using" and then in the dropdown window, make sure it says "local area network".

18) Next, click the "advanced" button at the top of the screen. When the advanced window opens, you will see a section labeled "Server Timeouts". Slide the lever to the right until the time displayed is at least 3 minutes.

19) Finally, make sure the box "Leave a copy of messages on server" at the bottom of the page is NOT checked.

20) Click "Apply", then click "Okay", and you are all set up.
